Dragonology!

Dragons have been an unusual source of inspiration for our budding young writers in class 3, but this topic has  sparked their imagination and helped to fuel their writing.   

Saint George and the Dragon.

Where better to start our topic than with the legend of Saint George and the Dragon; an amazing story of bravery, courage and good versus evil.   We used role play and storyboard sequencing to investigate the key events of the legend and learn more about the good and bad characters in the story.  Working in small groups, children were challenged to compose their own song, retelling the part of the legend where Saint George valiantly slays the dragon and rescues the princess.  Children wrote their own simple lyrics and rehearsed their song before performing it in front of an audience of their peers.  They used actions and musical instruments to add effect and improve their performance.
