ROCKCLIFFE CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Snapshot of China

As part of Mutli-cultural week in school, we have been learning all about China.

We started the week by exploring where China is located in the world and identifying the flag of China.

Next, we explored the capital of China, Beijing. We compared this to London and found some striking similiarities. We developed our knowledge of Beijing by researching famous landmarks that are located in the city.

Additionally, we've also been exploring Chinese culture. We looked at traditional chinese items and discussed their purpose. We used these as a stimulus for observational drawings.

It's safe to say our favourite part of the week has definitiely been trying Chinese food. Prawn crackers were a firm class favourite and lychee juice also proved to be extremely popular. Seaweed however, is still out for debate.

Finally, we concluded our week by exploring a day in the life of a child from China. We compared our daily timetable with the typical timetable of a chinese school. We definitely didn't want to be in a class of fifty pupils and didn't like to idea of giving up our playtime to do excercise. However, some of us loved the idea of having our parents attend some sessions with us - something we can hopefully develop in the furture.

All in all, we had a fantastic week learning all about China!
