Happy new year and welcome back! We have a busy half term coming up and we can't wait to get started. We will be extending and building on our counting, addition and subtraction skills in Math and exploring Africa in our safari based topic. We will be exploring character and developing our writing skills throughout our English unit starting with Zhara's story told in a wordless series of pictures. Keep checking back to see what we are getting up to!

This week, we have made a productive start exploring what we can find out about characters based on a small, wordless clip. We have made lots of deductions about Zahra, where she may be from and what her life may be like. In our English lesson today we looked at questions and thought of some we would like to ask Zahra, the children did a fantastic job taking on the character role and making suggestions as to what she might say in response to our questions. Great hot-seating Year one/two.

We have been exploring our value for this term - wisdom. The children thought about what wisdom means and how it is shown. We then thought about when we have been wise and helped others with our wisdom, creating our own art pieces using our name and adjectives to describe ourselves linked to our value and values within Christianity.

This week we have been exploring feelings in our RSE lessons. We each made a jigsaw of a mystery emotion and then when we discovered which emotion it was we made suggestions about what can make us feel this way. Year one/two then offered suggestions as to how we can make ourselves feel better with some of the more negative emotions. Great work everyone!

Welcome back! I hope everyone is feeling well rested after the half term break and ready to get back in to routine. The weather is starting to look nicer and the nights are getting a little lighter as we approach Spring. This half term we are looking at measurement in Maths, exploring the text 'The green ship' by Quentin Blake in English. We are looking at comparing past and present transport through our History topic, looking at what changes have been made and why. In Science we will be looking at time, the seasons and different ways in which we measure the passing of time. Check back to see what we have been up to!

This morning Year two have been exploring measuring in meters. We looked around the school and playground to practice estimating and then measuring to the nearest meter with our meter sticks. Year two did a fantastic job of working together to measure large objects around school!
