ROCKCLIFFE CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

EYFS Spring Term 2019

This half term we have been focussing on a variety of 'Traditional Tales'. As a class we followed clues using our problem solving skills to find the missing Gingerbread Man. Thankfully he was just on holiday and kindly left us some delicious treats!

We used biscuits to help us in our ginger maths. We have been working hard on careful counting. Adding one more and taking away to make one less. As a group we have been using equiptment such as number lines to help us work out the correct answers.

Following on from our Gingerbread journey we began searching for the bear who was missing from the woods in the story 'Goldilocks and just the one Bear'. We brought our own bears along for company.

Once returning to school we explored porridge how it looked, smelt and of course tasted. Some of us enjoyed it plain, others with honey and even a few had jam! Yum yum.

For Chinese New Year we celebrated by hosting a parent stay and play session. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying learning together.

Our final tale this term was 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Children enjoyed mystery objects being left in classroom which encourage excellent dialogues  such as, 'who could it be?', 'why have they left it?' and discussions over length and size. Children enjoyed measuring images of beanstalks using cubes and were also encourage to have a go at using none standard measures.

This half term children have also been working on their kindness to others, for Valentines Day children were able to create their own cards adding in some excellent writing for meaning- Well Done!

W.B. 25th February 2019

This week we have started a new topic investigating the farm called 'Do Cows Drink Milk?'. We have been working hard on writing captions and lists of words to describe a picture.

Children became budding farmers and were able to sell produce to their friends as well as carefully negotiate spaces to farm the 'fields' on a tractor.

On Friday we celebrated St. Davids day, we were very lucky to have a guest visit school to talk about Welsh Traditions and help us all create our very own Love Spoon. 'Thank You Sam' we had a fantastic time!!

We have continued our farming topic and have had the pleasure of Katy visiting us from LEAF to discuss with the children the many wonderful things farmers do including protecting the natural wildlife and habitats around us. We were very lucky because Katy brought us some sheep wool to feel...it was super soft and fluffy.

Foundation Class are so lucky to have such enthusitastic children, one of our class memebers even persuaded her very kind Mummy to bring in some pet lambs for us all to see, feel and feed. Thank you Kirri for making the childrens learning come alive!

Last week we continued our learning in the great outdoors. Children were very observant on their nature walk and spotted many wonders of nature including tracks in the mud, different types of grass and leaves as well as spring flowers.

The first group of children also went to the farm and managed to do a nature collection and pond dipping too! We can't wait to see what group two discover when they visit too.

Our second group of children also visited the farm for another morning of nature collections, and pond diping- this group even found a tadpole!!

As a class we learnt about bread from around the world and where it originated from - Thank you Nikki for making us think more about how much farmers do for us.
