ROCKCLIFFE CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

EYFS Summer Term 2019

zSummer Term has begun with a bugtastic bang! Children in Foundation have been exploring our surroundings to find incredible minibeasts. Some of us have even been brave enough to hold them. Wow.

We have all made our own bug houses and look what we found inside one, do you know what this creature is called?

We have been continuing looking at minibeasts and have now moved onto 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. Children used their probem solving skills to follow instructions to build fruit models out of LEGO.

Look at the fantastic creations we have made.

We have also been working really hard on our brillaint phonics skills!

We have been investigating bees, during this investigation we have learnt about how the worker bees communicate in and outside the hive to collect honey and pollunate our land to provide us with new food and flowers.

We conducted our own investigation of pollunation by collecting pollen (cheese balls) from a sunflower and then flying around and landing on the different grass patches distributing pollen as we go.

Look at the happy worker bees.

We have been busy look at lifecycles of other animals including frogs. We have made our own frog puppets to use when siging our maths song of the week 'Speckled Frogs'.

We have continued tobuild on our number skills working on number bonds to 20. Children are getting really good at using equipment to work out their answers to solve problems.

We have currently been looking at the topic 'Under the Sea'. We visitied Tullie House to learn more about Whales.

The children had a fantastic time learning about Whales, how they used to have legs, how they don't have teeth like ours, and how they like to live in salt water!

The children learnt a new song about a baby whale, enjoyed a range of craft activities and also took part in role play. They were all so well behaved the tour guide said she enjoyed answering so many questions from such a friendly group!

Children continued their learning in class by taking part in many more under the sea activities.

Children have been using a song about a shark to help them with their subtraction. Ask them to sing it they know it very well.

We have also had a fun filled 'Healthy Eating Day'.

We had fun raising our heartbeat in physical activities including parachute games, and races like 'dragons tails'.

We used healthy snacks in our Maths to help us double quantities

At the beginning of the year the children discussed what they would like to learn about this year. One of the girls asked to learn about 'donuts'. We have had a donut afternoon to celebrate this learning. Yummy!
