Summer 2024

hello summer.jpg

Welcome back to the summer term and with it the hope of some lovely sunshine! This half term we will be exploring Macbeth in our English work. Where we will be exploring character development and the use of direct and reported speech through play-scripts as well as performing through drama. In maths Year five will be looking at area, perimeter, statistics and shape, whereas Year four will be looking at decimals, time and money. Our topic this half term will be looking at climate change with the help of KOMATSU's climate heroes (with Carlisle United Community Sports Trust). We look forward to meeting Natasha and getting stuck in to this project! In PE we will be building on our tennis and athletics skills. In design technology we are looking at how we can make healthier swaps within our food technology. Keep checking back to see what Year four/ five are busy getting up to.

This week we made a start on our value for this term - Strength. We thought about what strength is and how we demonstrate it. We also had a think in our prayer space about what we would ask for strength for and why? Year four/ five had some great ideas!

We had our first visit from Natasha this week for our topic of climate change. We certainly had a lot to think about when we thought about all the things we do that add to our own carbon footprint. We came up with some great ideas to reduce our carbon footprint and our overall effect on the planet as individuals. We produced some great mascotts to help raise awareness.

This week in our Geography unit, we have been thinking more about climate change and the reasons for the changes that are happening. We worked in groups to answer a range of questions and present what we had found out to the rest of the class.

This week in PE we have been working on our team game skills. Working together as a team to be efficient, communicate well and improve both out fielding and batting skills.

In English this week we have been working on our persuasive language and debating technique to create a well-rounded argument about any given subject. In preparation we discussed Macbeth as a hero and as a villain. We took it in turns to put a point of view forward and respond to our partner appropriately with an alternative opinion.

We had another visit from Natasha from Kamatsu Forestry this week. We had a look at ecosystems and how climate change is effecting them. We looked at their habitats, their food chains and how their numbers are declining/ changing. We created some webs to see how a series of animals are connected.

In Science this week, Year four have been creating electrical circuits and testing how adding more components effects the amount of power needed to make the circuit work. We recapped what was needed to make a complete and working circuit before testing out a range of components.
