PE
Currently, PE is on Wednesday afternoons. PE kit comprises of a white t-shirt and black shorts. Pumps can be worn inside. For outdoor PE, trainers are safest. In colder weather the children can wear black jogging bottoms and their school jumper or hoodie. Long hair should be tied back and earrings should not be worn.
Swimming
Swimming is part of the national curriculum, which means attendance is compulsory. Our class will be going in two parts
- Y5 - Summer 1
- Y6 - Summer 2
Homework
Reading - Within the first week or two of term, I will be listening to each child read so I can allocate them a book-banded colour. Reading every day is advisable to help improve their fluency and comprehension. Strong reading skills also support learning across the curriculum including Maths. If you child is a reluctant reader, try to read the book-banded book 3 times a week and intersperse with reading books that they enjoy.
TTRS - All children have access to Times Table Rockstars and growing automaticity in these number facts helps support learning across a number of mathematical topics.
Maths and/or English - This year, I hope to utilise Study Ladder so that children can access their homework online which they tend to enjoy. I will set a minimum of one task per week.
Spelling - Spelling homework will be sent home most weeks. The children that enjage with this on a little and often basis often fare better than those who just practice the night before.
Arithmetic - Targeted homework will be sent for those children who need it. If a photocopied handwritten sheet comes home, can you please be nearby for support as it is an area they need to strengthen?
Additional home learning for Maths - Some children will get some Maths workbooks that they can use, alongside an adult at home, if they are finding a particular unit of work challenging.
Year 6 SATs
The Year 6 SATs take place from Monday 10th May to Thursday 13th May 2027.
- Monday 10th May - English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (Papers 1& 2)
- Tuesday 11th May - English Reading
- Wednesday 12th May - Maths Paper 1 Arithmetic and Maths Paper 2 Reasoning
- Thursday 13th May - Maths Paper 3 Reasoning
Although we would advise that term time holidays should be avoided, this is especially important on the run up to the statutory tests. SATS boosters will start in Jan/Feb.
At points, mock SATs tests will take place and, in addition, we will be using CGP materials within school to help prepare for the tests.
