Spring 2024
Spring 1 2024
Happy New Year to you all!
We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas!
Our topic this half term has a history focus.
KS1: Changes within living memory. Significant individuals – Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
KS2 : A study of an aspect or theme in British history beyond 1066. A significant turning point in British history.
We have chosen to focus on - British Clothing 1066-Present Day.
In Science, we will be looking at properties of materials which will link to our Clothing topic. Why were clothes made out of specific materials? How have these changed over the years? Children will even look at using a range of materials to design and make their own sculptures in Art!
In English, we are using the book 'The Magic Finger' to help develop our prediction and comprehension skills. We will cover a range of grammar elements including adjectives, verbs, adverbs and similes. Children will identify how these can support description in a narrative. We will use the book to help support us when writing character and setting descriptions. This knowledge will be really helpful when as we conttinue to develop our wriiting skills.
In VIPERS, we will be using Paddington.
Children are desperate to take on the role of Paddington in every VIPERS session - they really get into character for the full day!

The children were fantastic despite the cold!

Below are some of our interesting results.
- I can recognise what devices can be used to take photographs
- I can talk about how to take a photograph
- I can explain what I did to capture a digital photo
In Computing, children sorted the photographs in to landscape and portrait. They had some great discussions about which orientation showed the photo better.
We take a lot of pride in our classroom and love showing the children's fabulous work in display!
Children are exploring the wise choices that they make as our Christian Value focuses on Wisdom this half term. They have the opportunity to reflect and add their thoughts to our Wisdom Tree.
We are continuing to develop our History Display as we build on our learning.
Our English display is full to the brim with some fantastic examples of work. The Magic Finger sequel will be coming soon from Year 2/3....
Year 2/3 children were so grateful to one of our wonderful parents who provided personalised cupcakes as a treat! They tasted delicious and the chlldren say a huge thank you!
Welcome back to Spring 2!
Our topic this half term is Communication through the years. We will learn how technology has developed over time and investiigate different forms of communication.
Children will be introduced to the idea that people communicate differently nowadays from in the past. They will look at different ways in which people stay in touch or send messages now, when their parents, grand-parents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents were young.
In English, we will continue our Roald Dahl focus as we compare The Magic Finger to Fantastic Mr Fox. Later in the half term, we will be using a wordless picture book as insiration for newspaper reports. VIPERS will continue to focus on Paddington Bear- children are absolutely loving this story!
In Science, we will be covering forces and magnets. Our classroom displays are all ready for a new half term of learning!
In RE, we will be learning about Trust and Betrayal in the Easter story. Our Prayer Space focus is Forgiveness where children can take the opportunity to reflect on the Christian Value. Have they been forgiven? Have they forgiven someone? How does it feel to forgive/ be forgiven?
In PE, we have been trying our hands at Tennis. There are some fantastic skills in year 2/3!
In history, children started our topic by ordering communication methods on a timeline. Children were shocked by some of the older communication methods and we had some interesting conversations about how things have changed over the years.
In Maths, year 2 have been focussing on Shape while year 3 have been getting to grips with fractions.
Year 2 enjoyed recalling shape properties while playing games.
Year 3 used a Fraction Wall to consolidate understanding.
World Book Day 2024
On World Book Day, we completed an online drawing workshop focusing on Nina Peanuts. Children loved the session and many of the children went on to buy the book from the Scholastic Book Fair! We also had a buddy reading session with Year 6.
NISCU Easter Workshop
We were very lucky to invite Rachael (NISCU) in to school to deliver some fabulous Easter workshops with our KS2 children. She discussed the emotional rollercoaster of Holy Week and gave children the opportunity to reflect on emojis. Children really enjoyed the session and demonstrated a good understanding of Holy Week.
Red Nose Day 2024
On Red Nose Day,we wore rainbow colours (chosen by school council after a whole school vote)
We had a carousel of activities involving EYFS and Key Stage 1. The activity in our classroom involved designing a new red nose.
English
Our final piece of independent writing was a newspaper report. Witnesses saw flying pigs over Rockcliffe and Cargo!
We were inspired by the worldess picture book 'Tuesday'.
Year 2/3 performed in St Mary's Church.
The Sweet Truth of Easter, by Bethany Tapp
These sweets tell a story
the best news you’ll ever hear.
~It’s about Jesus dying on the cross
so that we could be brought near.
So hold them and turn them and you will see..
the "M" become a "W"an "E" and then a "3"
The "E" stands for... Easter....
God’s everlasting love and His eternal plan.
It reminds us of the cross
and the way God rescued sinful man
The "3" represent the 3 days Jesus spent in the grave....
By His death, His children He did save
The "M" reminds us of the mercy the Messiah showed
as He died in our place.
and the miracle of the resurrection
so we can see Him face to face.
The "W" reminds us... that He alone
is worthy of our worship and praise
and calls us to be His witnesses
around the world for all of our days
